The Blessing Box just outside Wesley United Methodist Church continues to bless many people who are struggling in our community. If you would like to place some items in the box, here are some tips and things to consider now that the weather is warming up.
No Glass. Accidents happen, so look for items in plastic or paper containers rather than a glass container.
Consider what will keep well during the upcoming Summer heat. It’s probably best to pass on things like tuna or anything dairy related as these can go bad quickly.
If placing canned goods in the blessing box, consider also including an inexpensive can opener. Some of our homeless neighbors may not have access to a can opener, so this could be very helpful. Also, look for canned goods with pull top lids.
Consider wrapping up some plastic utensils and paper napkins in little baggies. Some people may not have utensils, and again, this will help them enjoy their food from the Blessing Box.
Fresh fruit is always welcome – bananas, apples, oranges, peaches, all make great contributions to the box.
Peanut Butter is another great staple and it comes in plastic jars. And don’t forget some crackers to go with it!
Bottled water is a great item to share in the Blessing Box too.
Toiletries (baby wipes, toothbrush & toothpaste, socks, etc) are also appreciated.
We hope these tips are helpful and thank you to all at Wesley that continue to contribute to this wonderful new ministry at our church.
