A quick note: Imagine we have a map. On that map, it shows where we have been in the last 14 months, where we are going, and with a dot with our current location on it. Friends, while we may not be “there yet,” we can get there from here. It has lifted my soul to see more of where we are getting to. Thanks be to God.
Senior Sunday is this weekend (as I write this). In the voices and faces of the Seniors, we will see there is an entire universe of opportunity. We send “our kids” now adults into the world in the name of Jesus Christ to be world changers in God’s name. We invest in them to share them. It excites me to hear them speak of where they see God taking them. As we celebrate our Seniors and their families, it is also a time when Wesley should celebrate the large commitment it undertook over two decades ago to invest in its youth ministry. The decision in the late 90’s to invest in full-time ministry and several leadership decisions to expand the program to what it is today has all led to these Senior’s Wesley celebrates. Friends, Senior Sunday is a moment to take stock. Rarely can a congregation take such a bold step with an eye to the future, then have the patience to nurture, and patiently see the fruit of that step emerge. On behalf of the clergy who have served you and I am privileged to be in succession with, “Well done, Church!”
We will also be celebrating Mother’s Day this month. This year, a little something different: think for a moment and see if there is one woman besides/in addition to your mom who has chosen to love you. Can you remember her and reach out to her to share why her influence has/is forming you into the person you are? Take a few moments to let her know how her attention and influence have been important to you. Galatians 6:6 tells us, “Those who are taught the word must share in all good things with their teacher.” We rarely take the time to tell those who have influenced us for good the impact they have had on our lives. Will you take a few minutes and share your thanks with a woman in your life?
Blessings!
